Biography

MARLA HLADY (lives and works in Toronto) studied at York University (MFA) and University of Victoria (BFA). She has exhibited her work widely, both nationally and internationally, including SFX Seoul, Seoul, South Korea, 2019; Sounds Assembling: Communication and the Art of Noise, Museum London, London, ON, 2017; Circling the Inverse Square, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, 2013; Manif D’Art 6, Quebec City’s biennial, Quebec City, 2012; Walls (Hallwalls), Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Buffalo, NY, 2012; Rooms, Oakville Galleries, Oakville, 2011; Officina America, Museo di San Domenico, Imola, Italy, 2002; The Power Plant, Toronto, 2001; and Flywheel, The Nunnery, London, UK, 1999. Her work is in the collections of National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Museum London, London, ON; and CIBC Wood Gundy, Toronto, among others. Hlady and collaborator Christof Migone were recently awarded the prestigious Glenfiddich Artists-in-Residence Prize (2019).
